Job summary
The post holder will work in the medical monitoring pathway of the Adult Community Eating Disorders Service, working closely with the team Psychiatrist, Specialist Interest General Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist. This includes physical examination, investigation, ECG and phlebotomy skills working under the direction of a Registered Nurse to service users with severe and complex eating disorders in the community.Service users will be seen at a variety of sites across the county of Bedfordshire and Luton and the post holder will be expected to travel and provide clinics throughout the county to meet the service needs including transporting equipment for the clinics, and for clinical supervision and MDT meetings. Travel to in-patient services outside the county may also be necessary to support service users for discharge. The service user group seen by the post holder will include people experiencing severe or complex eating disorders, and may present with high levels of physical and psychiatric risk, with high levels of distress, for example suicidal ideation, self-harming behaviour, and histories of trauma and abuse. The post holder will work closely with the Operational Manager and Clinical Nurse Specialist to agree case and workload levels, and systems of monitoring quality of practice. The post holder will directly contribute to the positive working environment within the multi-disciplinary team
Main duties of the job
- Co-ordinate and liaise with service users for medical monitoring appointments
- Facilitate full medical monitoring clinics including taking bloods; performing ECG tests; taking patient observations such as blood pressure and pulse, and other investigative physical health tests as per Kings College guidelines for individuals with an eating disorder and as per direction from senior staff.
- Report any deterioration of the service users physical or mental state appropriately and timely
- Practice within professional guidelines and promote professional practice in clinical area.
