Job summary
The Social Work Team at the Coborn is here to support the clinical and nursing teams undertake their statutory safeguarding responsibilities in line with The Children Act 1989 (2004 as amended) and the statutory guidance 'Working Together to Safeguard Children'.
The Social Work Team are able to provide direct intervention with young people and their families where there are safeguarding concerns and also in relation to clinical work.
The expertise of the social work team is particularly needed with families and young people where there are complex social care histories, needs or family dynamics.
The Social Work Team will also support where young people require accommodation on discharge and liaise with local Children's Social Care Teams.
The social work team are instrumental in developing a working relationship with the Children's Services.
Main duties of the job
To provide systemic family interventions, complex social learning theory based parenting interventions, systemic networking, social work advise and assessments for children/young people and families
To provide high quality evidence-based mental health assessment of children/young people in the Coborn.
To provide systemic and social work interventions for the child/young person and family admitted to the Coborn. To provide mental health input to the network of the child/young person and family, as required.
To work closely with Social Care across East London boroughs, NCEL as well out of area admissions.
To participate with the MDT in providing advice and consultation regarding diagnoses and treatment to CAMHS colleagues, external agencies, working autonomously within professional guidelines.
To manage, plan and prioritise own clinical caseload and to exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment and treatment, including management of risks. This is done independently within appropriate clinical/professional guidelines.
To provide regular reports on outcome and progress to senior managers and Associate Clinical Director

1. Clinical Responsibilities
1.1 To provide social care and systemic assessment and intervention of children and young people and their families and carers at the Coborn.
1.2 To provide systemic interventions and parenting interventions for the child/young person and family at the Coborn

1.5 To work closely with staff in East London Social Care teams and care coordinator providing a range of consultations on CAMHS referrals, mental health, systemic and parenting intervention, teaching, training and undertaking direct work with families jointly with the Coborn MDT team as required.
1.6 To participate fully in all relevant reviews and planning meetings.
1.7 To ensure that all referred children, young people and families have a clear mental health care plan.
1.8 To participate in co-ordinating the mental health care-planning interface between Coborn, Social Care teams or community CAMHS teams and other relevant agencies for specific children and young people.
1.9 To participate in co-ordinating appropriate longer-term therapeutic care plans and packages for referred children/young people and families.
1.10 To participate in the specialist MDT assessment of children, young people and their families with significant and complex problems in order to formulate and implement plans for the treatment and management of a child or young persons mental health problems based upon an appropriate conceptual framework and employing research based on evidence. This may include consideration of some of the following issues: risk, parenting, family breakdown, child protection, sexual abuse, serious mental illness in client or parent, childcare, family rehabilitation, civil, public or criminal court proceedings. This may include provisions of professional reports to other agencies including court where appropriate. Some of this work is likely to be in collaboration with clinic staff or professionals from other agencies.
1.11 To participate in specialist consultation to children, young people and their families. This includes:
Assessment and treatment of children, young people, parents and families within Social Care or community CAMHS teams as appropriate
Liaison with other agencies.
Attendance and participation at meetings with Social Care as required.
Participate in Consultation to professionals from other agencies about cases, including complex cases with multi-agency involvement.
1.12 To participate in providing specialist intervention with both individuals and family groups with clinical autonomy drawing on a range of models and on basis of clinical needs. To practice in a way which is inclusive and considerate of the needs of each individual in the system including family members and their varying developmental stages and current emotional state.
1.13 To take joint professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of clients and formulate effective care plans in collaboration with the client and family. To undertake risk assessment and risk management relevant to individual patients including protective and risk factors present in the network of significant relationships.
1.14 To manage a clinical caseload jointly within appropriate clinical/professional guidelines and to seek consultation where necessary with the relevant line manager and Associate Clinical Director.
1.15 To provide highly specialist consultation, advice and guidance to other professionals at all levels working with families both within Social Care or Families First teams and in partner agencies. This will include liaison and working with professional networks involved with complex, emotive and often conflicted issues such as those involving child protection, deliberate self harm, violence, trauma and suicide risk. This may include organising, chairing and taking minutes for complex meetings including multi-agency professional network meetings.
1.16 To be part of MDT in evaluating and make decisions about treatment options taking into account highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the child and their difficulties.
1.17 To act as lead for care management in the service , implementing, reviewing and developing clear protocols for care management at the Coborn
1.18 To work jointly and collaboratively with other team members in order to enhance and develop work with families by providing highly specialist systemic knowledge and skills.
1.19 To be able to work in emotionally demanding environments and/or difficult working conditions.
1.20 To manage exposure to hostile, antagonistic or highly emotional atmospheres and verbal aggression, and to recognise and diffuse any risk of physical aggression.
1.21 To access the available support and supervision to cope with the emotional effects of working with potentially highly distressed and traumatised clients.
1.22 To provide a service to young people and carers/families, taking into account their individual, psychological, physical and social needs, including issues to do with disability and beliefs about mental health.
1.23 To work in ways which are sensitive to the needs of families from a wide range of racial, ethnic, cultural, religious and social backgrounds and to develop with colleagues innovative ways of meeting these needs. This includes an ability to understand and offer therapeutic interventions to a variety of family forms including single parents, extended families, blended families, same sex couples and their wider family networks, accommodated children and their network of care, children whose are subject to on the Child Protection plans.
1.24 To be responsible for monitoring, recording and reporting on clinical work and communicating highly complex clinical information to a variety of recipients e.g. service users, families and carers, other professionals orally and in writing, in the presence of significant barriers to acceptance.
1.25 To contribute effectively verbally and in writing, to provide reports including those for the Courts and Child Protection Conferences concerning complex circumstances.
