We are looking for an Assistant Fire Safety Adviser to be key point of contact as a support specialist in the Fire Safety Team by providing assistance and support in technical fire safety management and associated matters

This newly created role will be a highly visible member of estates who will contribute to the development and delivery of the Trust's overall Fire Safety strategy and ensure alignment with the Estates Strategy and the Trust's vision, values and strategic objectives.

With over 130 properties across East London, Luton & Bedfordshire and a multitude of service contracts with NHS and Private sector providers, you will be instrumental in ensuring that we are providing the best possible experience and quality of care for the population that uses our services as well as staff and partners that work for our Trust.

You will have experience in providing NHS (or similar) Fire Safety assistance, or possibly Health and Safety advice, as well as being an inspirational colleague who takes pride in stakeholder engagement.

Main duties of the job

Be a key point of contact as a support specialist in the Fire Safety Team by providing assistance and support in technical fire safety management and associated matters.

Oversee and monitor safe, efficient, and effective provision of fire safety services; give instructions to staff and contractors, monitor progress of work, develop standards, and initiate and manage the resolution of routine problems arising in relation to Fire Safety

Assist with the provision of fire safety and evacuation advice / guidance to the Trust's operational depts.

Assist in the delivery of fire training for staff.

Assist with managing Fire Safety inspections / audits, and assist with the development / implementation of action plans.

Manage the implementation of fire drills and to assess and ensure an adequate response to such events and ensure that appropriate records are maintained.

Assist with the investigation of fire incidents other related events.

Monitor planned maintenance programmes for all passive and active systems including (but not exclusive to) extinguishers, signage, detection/actuation, fire/smoke doors, fire barriers etc.

Assist with the development and maintenance of relevant files to record matters in relation to Fire Safety for each premises within the organisation, including Fire Risk Assessments; policies and procedures; drawings / plans, etc.

Take responsibility for ensuring the effective management and control of up-to-date drawings, plans, etc.

Essential

  • Bachelor's Degree in Fire Safety / Engineering / Built environment, facilities, management, or similar relevant degree. or equivalent level of knowledge acquired through courses and experience.
  • Managerial experience that would include responsibilities for Fire Safety / Health and Safety within the role
  • Familiarisation with the practical application of risk management / Fire Safety within an organisation.
  • Evidence of competence and continuing professional development.

Desirable

  • A Fire Safety or Health and Safety qualification (Level 3) with a relevant background in Risk or Fire Safety management.
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant legislation & regulation in relation to fire safety.

Experience

Essential

  • Fire or Health & Safety experience within a large service organisation.
  • Experience with the process of conducting Risk Assessments and inspections. Demonstrable experience of applying risk assessment process and the development of prioritised risk registers and action plans.
