Main duties of the job

There is 1 post made available following the previous consultant moving to another role.

The consultant psychiatrist provides input and clinical leadership to the Neighbourhood Mental Health Team. They lead the Neighbourhood Mental Health Team with a team of a band 7 senior worker (senior nurse of social worker), band 5 community connector (employed by the voluntary and community sector), a band 3 support worker, as well as access to an occupational therapist, psychologist, band 6 assessment worker, and peer-support worker. There is a band 8 team manager for 4 Neighbourhood Teams. The most recent addition to these are ARRS workers, which are band 7 posts employed by ELFT and working across GP surgeries and Neighbourhood Mental Health Teams. The consultant has a significant role in providing advice and training to GPs with the aim of increasing the skills and knowledge of GPs in the management of common mental health presentations.

The Neighbourhood Recovery Service has two sub-teams (East and West), led by 4 Band 7 senior practitioners, and 1 Band 8 operational lead. We are proud of the work we have done moving towards recovery-oriented care in the community and development of a primary care mental health offer which supports the recovery service in managing workload effectively.

About us

The consultant's caseload is aligned to the specific GP practices from the neighbourhood they cover. The post holder will continue to nurture and further enhance strong relationships with primary care colleagues, and this will facilitate a responsive service, that can see patients quickly, but also discharge back to primary care, with or without the input of the Neighbourhood Mental Health Team.

The current caseload is approximately 250 patients in each neighbourhood, and 50-60 on (what used to be called) CPA in the recovery service of each neighbourhood.

Our mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving the quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive - so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations.
