Job summary

We are looking for a passionate experienced Pharmacy Technician to lead our technician led pharmacy dispensary service. We are looking for a motivational manager to lead and develop the active dispensary, working alongside the Senior Management Team.

This senior post calls for excellent organisation and leadership skills allied with a broad experience in the delivery of high-quality hospital and community-based pharmacy services.

Main duties of the job

  • Manage pharmacy Dispensary oversee medication supply logistics for ELFT.
  • Be accountable for all members of the pharmacy dispensary team through direct and indirect management.
  • Delegate the day-to-day management of the pharmacy dispensary.
  • Liaise with the Trust Finance, Procurements and Contracts Team to monitor and coordinate the delivery of the Medicines Efficiency Programme.
  • To oversee the Pharmacy Dispensary Business Support Function, which supports the smooth running of the pharmacy department relating to administrative tasks such as sickness absence monitoring, staff induction, procurement, security monitoring, payroll liaison and general operational issue.
  • Important aspects of the role will be to provide leadership and when required project management within the dispensary.
  • Manage the technical, operational, training and contractual aspects of the pharmacy dispensary, working with the digital pharmacy technician and digital team to promote new safe and efficient ways of working.
  • Work with the Lead pharmacist for Tower Hamlets on business development of the pharmacy dispensary.
  • To participate in the ELFT weekend rota (1 in 8 weekends)

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To be responsible for the day-to-day activity of ELFT Pharmacy dispensaries (currently situated at Mile End hospital) .
  • To line-manage dispensary staff directly and indirectly.
  • To lead and co-ordinate pharmacy technicians and Assistant Technical Officer education for the dispensary team and support training trust wide when required
  • Responsible for the strategic development of the pharmacy dispensary including income generation.
  • To support the chief pharmacist and lead pharmacists with income generation activities and proposals.
  • To manage dispensary incidents working with key stake holders such as the medicines safety officers
  • To manage trust complaints involving the pharmacy dispensary and associated supply functions.
  • To assist in developing the Pharmacy Service.
  • Insuring processes and systems are compliant with best practice for dispensing and supplying medication to clinical areas, drug procurement, storage and distribution whilst maintaining the quality of all medicines purchased by the Trust.
  • Work independently and autonomously.
  • To cover all aspects of the lead procurement technicians duties during their absence.
  • Authorise pharmacy orders.
  • To be responsible for the development and delivery of required cost improvement financial targets to support the Trust annual financial plan
  • In conjunction with the Pharmacy Procurement lead, to raise purchase orders and receive goods on behalf of the Pharmacy Department
  • Oversee the ordering process ensuring orders are accurate, placed within set time frames, out of stock items are dealt with and contract claims are processed
  • Manage NHS and local contracts, overseeing implementation and maintenance of contracts
  • Oversee the invoice processing, deal with complex invoices and discrepancies
  • Reviewing the logistics of medication distribution e.g maintaining cold chains.
  • In conjunction with the Pharmacy Procurement lead, be responsible for Managing goods in, ensuring that medication and goods are received correctly and answering any queries or issues that goods in person may have
  • To dispense and check safely and accurately when required.
  • Working towards accreditation for trust pharmacy procurement
  • Work with the Chief Pharmacist, Deputy Chief Pharmacists and Medicines Safety Officer to lead on medicines safety initiatives.
  • Monitor Controlled Drug usage across the trust.
