Principal Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist - Emotional & Behavioural Team

We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Principal Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist with significant CAMHS, supervision, line management and liaison experience to come and work in the socially and culturally diverse borough of City and Hackney. This post is part of a comprehensive Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service, within the East London NHS Foundation Trust and as part of the wider Hackney CAMHS Alliance.

Main duties of the job

To lead on the provision of child psychotherapy services within City and Hackney Specialist CAMHS alongside our other 8B psychotherapist in the team and to provide child and adolescent psychoanalytical psychotherapy alongside generic work within the service to young people and their families.

The post holder will take a joint senior role in line managing and supervising the psychotherapy team and other disciplines and will contribute to reestablishing our psychotherapy trainee programme. This is a community-based post, located within the Emotional and Behavioural Pathway (E&B) offering flexible, evidence-based episodes of care, specialist CAPT assessments and treatments including STPP and brief psychotherapy work, including possible group-work.

The post holder will directly contribute to the positive working environment within the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will require a high degree of professional autonomy and self-management, and will be required to account for their professional practice through appraisal and audit.

The postholder will be in the E&B Team 3 days a week. The post holder will play a direct role in Quality Improvement (QI) and audit projects as necessary.

This post will include the provision of specialist CAMHS advice/consultation and mental health assessment, family interventions and liaison with other agencies.

City and Hackney Specialist CAMHS is a large and vibrant specialist child and adolescent mental health service with a reputation for innovation and flexibility in meeting the complex mental health support needs of City and Hackney's children, young people and families. It provides an extensive and growing range of services including multi-disciplinary specialist teams such as the Emotional & Behavioural Team, Adolescent Mental Health Team, Paediatric Liaison Team, Neurodevelopmental Team, Behaviour Support and Outreach Team and embedded clinicians in local schools. It works closely with the broader CAMHS Alliance.

There is a broad spectrum of disciplines and a long tradition of effective multidisciplinary and interagency working. The service undertakes considerable outreach and consultation work and is currently developing more community approaches to improve CAMHS accessibility and impact.

  • A professional qualification in Child & Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy recognized by the Association of Child Psychotherapy and with current registration.
  • Masters or doctoral level training in Child Psychotherapy including the completion of a 2 year PGDip in Observational Studies.
  • Evidence of continued professional development and fulfillment of the CPD requirements of the ACP.
  • Accredited ACP supervision training

Experience

  • Significant post qualification experience of working as a child psychotherapist with children and young people with complex mental health problems in CAMHS.
  • Experience in working with children and young people who have experienced significant trauma.
  • Clinical experience of working with complex cases in child & adolescent mental health.
  • Experience of multiagency working with specialties relevant to specialist CAMHS.
  • Experience of mental health consulting to other staff and / or offering clinical supervision.
