Macmillan Specialist Cancer & Palliative Care and Respiratory Clinical/Counselling Psychologist (Bedfordshire & Luton)
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to join the Cancer and Palliative Care Psychology Team and Respiratory Services. We are seeking a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist who is enthusiastic, creative and wants opportunities to develop their skills to help deliver our vision for improved access and experience of psychological care for those with physical health adversity, across Bedfordshire and Luton. The post holder will join a supportive, ambitious and dedicated Specialist Cancer and Palliative Care Psychology team (Level 3 and Level 4), including Clinical Psychologist, Systemic Family/Couples Therapist and CBT/Psychotherapist, and work closely with multidisciplinary colleagues across Respiratory Services. The position offers a varied role including clinical casework, consultation, supervision groups, teaching and training, service development and research. The post holder will be supported within a broader thriving and diverse Clinical Health Psychology Team, and receive supervision by an experienced physical health psychologist, to deliver high quality services across organisational boundaries. Main duties of the job
The post holder will work across two specialist areas, Cancer & Palliative Care Psychology and Respiratory Psychology. Working with patients, their families and carers, across Luton & Bedfordshire. The post holder will be responsible for providing specialist clinical psychology services as an integral member of the Luton and Bedfordshire Macmillan Psychology Service and operate as an integrated member of the Respiratory teams and oncology teams at Bedfordshire and Luton Hospitals. The post holder will provide specialist psychological assessment, interventions and evidence-based therapies. The role promotes the full range of psychological skills, to include the provision of teaching/training, advice, consultation and supervision, both with quilaified/unqualified and non-psychology colleagues. The post holder will utilise research skills for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of individual and group psychological interventions, quality improvement, service development and research.

Training Qualification
Essential
- Formal training and accreditation to Doctoral level in Clinical Psychology, or its equivalent for those who trained prior to 1996. Eligible for Chartered Status. Training should include models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology.
- Competent in two or more distinct psychological therapies. Newly or soonto-qualify candidates will need to know the date they are to be awarded their degree.
- Willingness to participate in a CPD programme relevant to the requirements of the post
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development as recommended by the BPS.
- HCPC Registered (or registration pending if qualifying)
Experience
Essential
- Experience of working with people with cancer and palliative care needs or with other health psychology patients and an understanding of psychological models and therapies applied to these client groups, in previous posts or on training placement
- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups across the whole life course, presenting problems that include the full range of clinical severity.
- Maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
