Job summary

East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT has been successful in becoming an Early Implementer Site (EIS) for community-based tobacco dependency for people with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) 2022/2023. The proposed community model would be an extension of our current inpatient offer into the community, via Community Mental Health Services. This builds upon our EIS work for inpatients started in 2021. This model has been developed in partnership with service users, clinical teams and with our community stop smoking providers.

Main duties of the job

The role will provide formalised peer support and practical assistance to service users in order for them to regain control over their lives and their own unique recovery process. Within a relationship of mutuality and information sharing, they will promote choice, self-determination and opportunities for the fulfilment of personally valued roles and connection to local communities.

About us

The Peer Support Worker will help service users to identify their strengths, interests and goals and support with accessing other wellbeing services and community-based opportunities as needed. They will support with the ongoing engagement with community stop smoking services where required.

  • Level 2 Stop Smoking Qualification or willingness to undertake this training.
  • ELFT Accredited Peer Support Worker Training
  • NVQ3 or equivalent experience.
  • Commitment to obtain underpinning knowledge through work based learning and mandatory training.
  • A willingness to undertake further training and/or qualifications.
