Job summary
This job description is for a Locum for Service Core Trainee/Foundation Year 2 (SHO) post in Adult and Older Adult Psychiatry, working with patients suffering from severe and enduring mental illness or organic brain disease such as dementia. The post holder will spend up to six months in a post under the clinical supervision of a Consultant Psychiatrist. There are a variety of available posts depending on gaps in the training placement rota.
The successful candidate will be supported in their development through regular supervision.
Less than full-time and flexible working will be actively considered.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will provide a clinical psychiatric service to the Psychiatric intensive care wards in Tower Hamlets
Duties would include:
- Clerking of new patients to include psychiatric history and physical health examination
- Assessment and management of physical health conditions
- Ordering investigations and liaising with medical and surgical specialities, and following up on recommendations from therapies such as SALT, diabetes nurse, physiotherapy, dietician
- Weekly patient reviews to include mental state examinations and physical health reviews
- Completion of standard assessment forms (e.g. investigation forms, capacity and consent forms)
- Preparing notification of discharge forms
- Ordering short term leave medication
- Attendance and record keeping at ward MDTs and Care Programme Approach (CPA) and discharge meetings
- With supervision from the consultant, liaising with families and providing updates regarding progress
