Job summary

CALLING ALL PRE-REGISTRATION & NEWLY QUALIFIED MENTAL HEALTH NURSES.

The Mid Bedfordshire Mental Health team have created a Band 5 Community Mental Health Nurse development position to support newly qualified nurses to build their competencies in the community in preparation for a Band 6 CMHN role.

Successful candidates will be employed as a Band 5 nurse and will be supported and supervised by our newly appointed Band 7 senior nurse in parallel with the ELFT nurse preceptorship programme over a nine to twelve month period.

Nurses who have gradated though the development programme will be encouraged to apply for a Band 6 role through a ring fenced interview process.

You will work in our multi-disciplinary recovery focused community mental health team and will be a core member of the multi-disciplinary team; participating in the provision of high quality mental health care for people who present with severe and enduring mental health problems.

You will provide treatment within the established care pathways that ensure the best outcomes for the people who use our services; with a focus on recovery and promoting independence.

You must have experience of working with people with severe and enduring mental health problems as part of your training and/or preregistration experience and have a commitment and genuine interest to support individuals to meet their recovery needs within the community.

Main duties of the job

You will carry out the role of a named nurse, under the direct guidance and supervision of our Band 7 senior nurse. This will involve assessments, developing and implementing agreed care plans, reviewing the care provided, identifying risks and working with the patient to establish plans to mitigate risk, while responding to any emerging crises. You will be instrumental in providing psycho-education, mental state monitoring, relapse prevention work and offering advice and guidance on issues that may impact on someone's physical health.

You will be required to support the Duty rota and depot clinic rota, while jointly working an identified caseload where you will need to ensure a high standard of professionalism and conduct which is consistent with best practice.

In the role, you will liaise with Primary Care services, the Voluntary and Private Sector and contribute to providing a recovery focused model of care. You will play an active role in the discharge of our service users from hospital and will commission health and social care services as required.

Your role will be to ensure the service provided by the team is well organised, evidence based, recovery focused, socially inclusive and person centred, with clear outcomes.
