Job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join our dynamic multi-disciplinary community team. ELFT champions the development of its Allied Health Professional workforce and an exciting opportunity has arisen to work both independently and jointly with a variety of health and social care practitioners to support the communication and eating and drinking needs of people with learning disabilities in Hackney. You will work together with team members, service users and their support networks to plan and support the delivery of strategies, in the diverse and vibrant borough of Hackney.
Main duties of the job
This band 6 Speech and Language Therapy post is within the Hackney Integrated Learning Disabilities Service (ILDS) and the post holder will be actively involved in the wider Speech and Language Therapy network across learning disability services in ELFT.
ILDS is an integrated multidisciplinary health and social care service that works with adults living in Hackney who have a Learning Disability. This post involves seeing people at their homes or in their communities. The post holder will carry a caseload, independently completing assessments and interventions, including assessment and management of communication needs, dysphagia/eating and drinking difficulties and advising on inclusive communication strategies for people with learning disabilities within Hackney.

Education/ Qualification/ Training
Essential
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Speech and Language Therapy recognised by the RCSLT
- HCPC Registration and license to practice
- Membership of RCSLT
Desirable
- Post-basic qualification in dysphagia
- Training in student supervision
Experience
Essential
- Specialist knowledge acquired through degree, experience of working with communication impairment and specialist postgraduate training.
- Experience working with adults or children with communication difficulties.
- Experience of working within a multidisciplinary service
- Experience of research and audit
- Skills in clinical supervision of assistants, junior SLTs and students.
Desirable
- Evidence of experience of assessment and intervention with people with learning disabilities, including associated physical disabilities, sensory disabilities and/or mental health problems
- Experience of using electronic recording systems and workflows to document interventions and extract data
- Good clinical skills/knowledge across a wide range of dysphagia and communication difficulties

- To have highly developed communication skills including knowledge of augmentative communication systems (signing and symbol use)
- Evidence of clinical knowledge, application and analysis of standardised and non-standardised assessment tools and approaches to assessment appropriate for use with adults with learning disabilities, including associated physical disabilities, sensory disabilities and/or mental health problems
- Specialist knowledge, understanding and application of Speech and Language Therapy process relating to client centred practice
