Highly Specialist Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytical Psychotherapist - Emotional & Behavioural Team

Band 8A - Full time, permanent post

37.5 hrs 5 days. 4 days minimum will be accepted

We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Highly Specialist Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist with significant CAMHS, supervision, line management and liaison experience to come and work in the socially and culturally diverse borough of City and Hackney. We welcome applicants who enjoy working effectively as part of a team, have competencies in working with families from diverse cultures and ethnicities, and have a commitment to delivering high quality, evidence based practice.

This post is part of a comprehensive Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service, within the East London NHS Foundation Trust and as part of the wider Hackney CAMHS Alliance. This post will include the provision of specialist CAMHS advice/consultation and mental health assessment, family interventions and liaison with other agencies.

Main duties of the job

This post will provide child and adolescent psychoanalytical psychotherapy alongside generic work within City and Hackney CAMHS to young people and their families.

This is a community-based post, located within the Emotional and Behavioural Pathway Team (E&B) in City & Hackney CAMHS offering flexible, evidence-based episodes of care, specialist CAPT assessments and treatments including STPP and brief psychotherapy work, including possible group-work.

The post holder will directly contribute to the positive working environment within the multi-disciplinary team.

The post holder will require a high degree of professional autonomy and self-management, and will be required to account for their professional practice through appraisal and audit.

The post holder will be in the E&B Team 5 days a week. The post holder will play a direct role in Quality Improvement (QI) and audit projects as necessary.

Education/ Qualification/ Training

Essential

  • A professional qualification in Child & Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy recognised by the Association of Child Psychotherapy. Masters or Doctoral level training in Child Psychotherapy including the completion of a 2 year PGDip in Observational Studies
  • Evidence of continued professional development and fulfillment of the CPD requirements of the ACP.

Experience

Essential

  • Significant post qualification experience of working as a child psychotherapist with children and young people with mental health problems in CAMHS.
  • Experience in working with children and young people who have experienced significant trauma.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of equality and diversity issues and the ability to integrate into employment policies and practices.
  • Understanding of current NHS/Social Care policies/practices relating to Mental Health and Services and understands the Child Protection Policy.
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development and mental health.
  • Knowledge of child protection procedures.
  • Knowledge of relevant research and literature.
  • NHS Constitution - Having experience for ensuring that the values including Care, Compassion, Competence, Communication, Courage and Commitment are adhered to daily, and any matters of concern are raised with the relevant Line Manager or through the necessary processes within the Trust.
  • Working knowledge of child protection procedures and an ability to promote and safeguard the welfare of children.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, adolescents, parents and families.
  • To have the ability to contribute to the development of CAMHS through the use of knowledge gained from research, literature, training and evidence based practice and working with children with Mental Health issues from 0-18 years of age, and actively participate in the evaluation of clinical outcomes.
  • Knowledge of relevant national and local policies / legislation.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills with the ability to tailor the message to a variety of audiences.
