Job summary

We are excited to announce we are now looking to recruit to our one remaining senior mental health practitioner post within our North Bedfordshire CAMHS Crisis Home Treatment Team (CHTT). The team has undergone a marked expansion and development in the last 18 months and now offers a comprehensive high quality crisis assessment, intervention and intensive home treatment pathway working withchildren and adolescents up to the age of 17.The highly valued MDT approach enables the team to adopt a person centred and needs based model and trauma informed approach, working creatively, innovatively and where needed undertaking an assertive outreach approach to address the often multiple overlay of contextual factors that may contributing to a young person and their family's crisis.

We frequently work with young people who may be looked after, or supportedunder the Child in Need or Child Protection Frameworks. We are committed toworking with the Local Authority, Education, Voluntary sectors to facilitate thebest outcomes for our Service Users.

Though previous CAMHS experience is desirable, we are very happy to consider applications from candidates able to demonstrate experience in working with younger adults in crisis settings/situations and who exhibit transferable skills, evidencing the ability to engage therapeutically with young people experiencing mental health crisis.

Main duties of the job

Young people under the care of CHTT are supported in either the crisis or hometreatment pathway of the team, we require the successful post holder to possessexcellent skills in assessing mental health within the context of crisispresentations, the ability to assess and formulate risk and establish therapeuticrapport quickly and in sometimes challenging situations.The successful candidate will be required to support and at times lead on thedevelopment and implementation of brief crisis intervention and intensive hometreatment plans, with the ability to work autonomously whilst embracing theteam approach that is integral to the success of the CHTT.To ensure we meet the needs of children, young people and their families, thepost holder will carry out the above interventions in a variety of settings:Local general hospitalSchoolsHome addressesClinic baseOther community based venues/walksThe post holder will need to possess excellent communication skills and thecommitment to work closely with other professionals offering advice andconsultation to facilitate a shared joint/multi-agency understanding of theyoung person's problems.In addition to the above, the successful candidate will be given the opportunityand support to participate in delivering training, team development and qualityinitiatives and undertake supervisory responsibilities

About us

To promote on-going team effectiveness and positive development, we have regular crisis and home treatment pathway away days and half days, we also recognise the importance of work-life balance and provide flexible work patterns and hours to promote staff well-being.

As a team we meet together regularly, this currently includes daily crisis huddles, focusing on team risk management, weekly crisis team meeting focussed on young people and their care plans and weekly home treatment meetings to develop and review intensive support plans to offer an alternative to psychiatric inpatient admission. The Senior Management Team within Beds CAMHS is committed to staffdevelopment: there are regular opportunities for staff to apply for appropriate training courses and to get involved in quality improvement initiatives and new developments in the service, some associated with a higher banding during the timeof the project.

This post is based in Bedford, Bedfordshire, close to the M1 and easily reached by rail and car from North London, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire. The clinic also has the added benefit of free parking and allclinicians are supported by very dedicated and efficient administrative staff.
