Job summary

We are excited to announce this 0.6 WTE post to lead on the community psychology pathway within our service.Ocean is a psychology and midwifery led maternal mental health service combining psychologists and psychological therapists with specialist midwifes in supporting women and birthing people who are experiencing moderate-severe mental health difficulties relating to baby loss and birth trauma. Ocean is a community based service, offering a range of interventions including one to one psychology, group work and indirect work with maternity services.

Ocean is a service that prioritises addressing maternal mental health inequalities and developing inclusive services. Therefore the focus of this role is to develop pathways and service provision to meet the maternal mental health needs of the diverse communities in East London. The role will focus on partnership working and co-production with local community groups, as well as managing the band 7 psychologist and clinical associate psychologist who will support the work in this pathway.

The successful candidate will have a strong interest in and knowledge of the principles of community psychology, and a shared model of working collaboratively with statutory and third sector colleagues, faith organisations and community members including service users and carers.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide psychological interventions to people with complex mental health needs. They will also contribute to developing and maintaining partnership working with local community groups to promote social connections, community engagement and participation.

The post holder will contribute to staff supervision and training and provide psychological advice (informal, ad hoc, and formal consultation) to other staff teams, community workers, carers and people with lived experience of mental distress. The post holder will also support the screening of new referrals into the service, conduct assessments and hold a small case load.

  • Qualifications: Doctorate in Counselling Psychology and able to demonstrate eligibility for BPS CPsychol (Chartered Psychologist) Or Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) or BPS statement of Equivalence and able to demonstrate eligibility for BPS CPsychol (Chartered Psychologist) Or Accredited training as a CBT Therapist, and Core mental health profession, or a demonstrable working knowledge of NHS values, clinical structures in secondary mental health care, referral pathways, how services are funded and the roles of NHS professionals
  • Registration: Full registration with one of: 1. HCPC (Psychologists and Arts Therapists) 2. BABCP 3. UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the specialty as required by professional accrediting/registration body (e.g. BPS/ HCPC/ BABCP).
