Band 3 Podiatry Assistant

0.60 WTE full time contract

22.5 hours per week 8.30am-5pm

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and innovative Podiatry Assistant to work within our Specialist Podiatry Service in Tower Hamlets within community clinics; domiciliary setting and here at Mile End Hospital.

You will be involved daily in our Emergency Clinic at 8:30am Monday-Friday which provides "Gold standard" active wound care. You would be responsible for supporting, treatment planning for foot complications associated with e.g. diabetes, vascular / ischaemic long-term conditions and you would be part of the foot protection team treating foot ulceration as part of community health services. You will have the opportunity to assist our Podiatrists in nail surgery; and wound care management and footwear clinics.

Main duties of the job

Providing foot health nail care and education to Tower Hamlets residents. This may be in the hospital setting ; in one of our two community clinics or in the domiciliary setting. You will be willing to work in clinic both independently, and as part of a team.

You must have experience in provision of routine nail care to the foot and a understanding of common nail disorders and foot pathologies and anatomy to identify when to refer onto your Podiatrist colleagues.

You must be able to demonstrate excellent manual dexterity skills to carry out routine nail care safely to our at risk foot caseload.

Ideally you will have experience conducting thorough vascular & neurological assessment of lower limb & foot.

You will support procurement processes with the service to ensure footwear is prescribed; clinical stores & sterile instrumentation stock is maintained.

Each week your role will require supporting our Podiatrists by assisting with Nail Surgery, experience with this would be desirable.

You will adhere to service user records policy on our clinical system EMIS. Always playing your part to maintain the Foot Health of service users of Tower Hamlets. This will include relevant administration to support any care you provide and to communicate with other health professionals & colleagues.

On occasion you may be required to step in to an administration supporting role to assist colleagues with appointment booking or reception.
