Job summary

  • This role primarily provides communications and engagement support to ELFT's Digital Department, but also utilises any spare capacity to provide extra cover for the two-strong internal communications team
  • This includes writing for different platforms and audiences, internal and stakeholder, media, social media, web and apps, film and editing, preparing guidance documents, plus organising and managing engagement events as required.
  • This should be carried out using a large degree of operational autonomy and with responsibility for outcomes and departmental satisfaction.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsibility for the creation and execution of the communications plan to support delivery of ELFT's Digital Strategy
  • To establish and develop relations with key stakeholders with regards to the Trust's Digital strategy and delivery of digital support services
  • To develop and manage effective channels for the dissemination of key messages realting to ELFT's Digital strategy and departmental activities
  • Responsibility for keeping staff in ELFT's Digital department informed of the department's initiatives
  • Key responsibility for communications and engagement during physical outages and cyber attacks, working cloely with colleagues in Trust communications team, especially the Director and Head of Communications
  • Responsibility for communicating and engaging in Digital Department campaigns and events

Using any spare capacity to support the Trust's two-strong internal communications team which could include support to produce the weekly staff e-bulletin, uploading to the Trust intranet, filming and editing the CEO video blog and involvement with various staff engagement events

Job responsibilities

Digital communications planning

  • Keep updated and deliver the annual Digital Communications Plan, reporting to the Digital DMT at agreed times and keeping them informed of issues when they arise
  • Attend and contribute to key meetings identified with the Digital department to support and ensure delivery of the annual Digital Comms Plan and to promote Digital Department initiatives.
  • Manage communication around issues arising from the work of the Digital Department
  • Provide direct expert communications advice to the Chief Digital Officer and senior colleagues in ELFTs Digital Department, including providing content and communications management of the roll out of digital initiatives, especially the Trusts Digital First Strategy.
  • Direct, produce, film, edit and post videos to support the roll out of key digital initiatives, software and hardware this may include educational material.

Stakeholder engagement

  • Develop and maintain a stakeholder map and contents for the Digital First Strategy and be responsible for the delivery of the resultant stakeholder plan.

Managing communications channels

  • Determine, develop and deliver the most effective channels of communications for digital initiatives and agree them with the client
  • Measure the effectiveness of communications using structured surveys with targets agreed with the Digital Department
  • Promote activity which has led to the successful resolution of issues raised by stakeholders ie You Said, We Did

Digital staff communications

  • Keep staff in the Digital Department fully informed through execution of a departmental communication plan that may include a digital newsletter
  • Develop two-way feedback for the Digital Department on its performance, issues important to stakeholders and to improve the perception of Digital execution within the Trust and externally eg staff focus groups.

Reactive and emergency communications

  • Create and implement communication plans that redress misperceptions of digital issues and digital transformation.
  • During significant (e.g. service outage) and major (e.g. widespread cyberattack), digital incidents proactively manage departmental communication and act at the link person with the Trust communications team.

Events & Campaigns

  • Generate and post content for pre-existing channels, including the Trusts social media outlets, website and intranet and develop the ELFT digital intranet pages which will include real time information.
  • Promote, assist in the organisation and running of digital events. This may include advising on content and producing materials, including PowerPoint presentations and management of in conference audience feedback (e.g. menti etc).
  • Develop and execute any specific digital communications campaigns as required by the department Director and/or DMT.

Financial and Physical Resources

  • Manage financial and staff resources for projects, manage budgets/ spend for projects and deliver projects within the agreed and allocated resources.
  • Constantly strive for value for money and greater efficiency in the use of these budgets and to ensure that they operate in recurrent financial balance year on year.
  • Responsibility for tracking expenditure on Digital Communications activities and provides reports to the Director of Communications, as required.

Key working relationships

  • Develop and maintain effective, professional and productive relationships with all levels of staff throughout the Trust including senior management, Trust Board, frontline staff and own team.
  • Develop and maintain effective, professional and productive relationships with NHS and partner organisations, commissioners, stakeholders, Foundation Trust members and Governors, MPs, patients and carers.
  • To negotiate and work with suppliers to deliver communications products and activities.
