Job summary

Bedford CAMHS is excited to be offering a number of opportunities to join NHS Mental Health services as Apprentice Clinical Associates in Psychology within CAMHS. This is a relatively new route into practicing as an applied psychologist in the NHS and offers psychology graduates another valued route into clinical practice. As an apprentice you will be working and being paid full time while you complete a Masters qualification on a Clinical Associate Psychologist training programme, the full fees for this will be paid. ELFT benefits from access to more than one training provider with possibilities for training with some face to face delivery or for training via predominantly online learning.

You will have 2 days 'off the job' training over a period of 18 months to complete the CAP Masters Programme and the related Masters research project. Across the Trust there will be several apprentice clinical associates in psychology who we will support to develop through the apprenticeship into qualified members of our wider psychology professional group.

On qualification you will be eligible to work as a (Band 6) Clinical Associate in Psychology in our services to deliver innovative psychologically based interventions both directly with service users and their families.

Main duties of the job

  • Are you a psychology graduate who is passionate about making a real difference to the lives of children and young people and their families?
  • Have you gained substantial experience and undertaken post-graduate training relevant to meeting the mental health needs of children and young people?
  • Are you looking for an alternative to the Clinical Psychology Doctorate training route to become a qualified applied psychologist in child & adolescent mental health?
  • Do you have a 2:2 psychology degree eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society (BPS)?
  • Can you bring knowledge and experience of the local communities in Bedfordshire and Luton?
  • We especially welcome applications from
    • Black Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates
    • Employees of ELFT
    • Residents of Bedfordshire and Luton

About us

This will be a highly rewarding opportunity to train as an applied psychologist in child & adolescent mental health services while working full time and learning though the apprenticeship. Providing valuable care for young people in our communities you will have an influential role in the delivery and development of services that will make a real difference to people lives.

Successful candidates must be able to begin their employment with the Trust no later than 1st October 2023.

Interview date: Thursday 24th August 2023

Candidates will be enrolled on a Clinical Associate in Psychology Masters programme at Exeter University, the fees for which will be paid, and must therefore be eligible for University UK Home Fees. The programme model is designed to be flexible around the needs of apprentices and workloads. The teaching is delivered through a blended learning model or fully online.
