Job summary

Band 6 Occupational Therapist

Do you want to work with older adults with dementia, mental health and physical health needs in a multidisciplinary inpatient setting whilst promoting evidence-based practice?

Are you an autonomous Occupational Therapist who can provide Occupational Therapy specific assessment, treatment/interventions and contribute to planning and evaluating services? Then this is the job for you.

Main duties of the job

  • To work in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team to assess and treat older people with dementia and mental health support needs, enabling future accommodation/care to be identified in line with individual preference and best interest.
  • To be responsible for their own caseload on Sally Sherman ward, providing Occupational Therapy specific assessment, treatment/interventions via a range of individual and/or group treatments.
  • To provide Occupational Therapy input for a small caseload of older people with dementia and mental health support needs on Fothergill Step Down ward and feedback to the MDT Team as appropriate.
  • To develop and maintain links with Community services and relevant statutory and non-statutory agencies.
  • To provide clinical supervision and support practice education when required.
  • To contribute to the planning and evaluation of the services.

Essential

  • Diploma or degree in Occupational Therapy
  • State Registration

Desirable

  • Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapy

Experience

Essential

  • At least one year post qualification in clinical mental health setting and/or
  • Demonstrable experience highly related to the clinical field
  • Experience of CPD and role development activities

Knowledge

  • Needs and rights of service users and / or carers in planning and service development
  • Applied social, health and medical sciences required for the practice of Occupational Therapy including psychology, anatomy, physiology and sociology
  • Applied psychological perspectives relevant to OT in mental health including behavioural, cognitive and humanistic perspectives
  • The theory and practice of occupational therapy including occupational science and holistic models of OT practice
