Comm Inclusion Lead Clinical / Counselling Psychologist

This is an 8B Community Inclusion Psychologist Lead role to address inequalities in access, experience and outcome within Newham's diverse communities. The post holder will work across Adult Mental Health Services within the borough, alongside local community groups and individuals within local communities, to improve the psychological therapies offer for minoritised communities within Newham, with a particular attention to racially and/or ethnically minoritised groups. It will involve leading multiple projects ensuring that psychological therapies services at secondary care level and outreach work is relevant, acceptable and responsive to the needs of our local communities.

The post holder will have an in-depth understanding of race(ism) and how it operates within psychological therapy services. They will also have a keen interest in project management of trauma-informed approaches to healthcare, with the view of creatively integrating their output within the broader Trust's Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) programme.

Main duties of the job

  • To forge effective links and working relationships with key members of local community groups in order to understand and/or advocate for their needs with regards to provision of psychological treatments and to facilitate improved access, outcome and experience of psychological therapies for local communities.
  • To attend key meetings within the Trust and local directorate (e.g., Newham Inequalities group) and take the opportunity to amplify the feedback received during working relationships with local communities in the service of enhancing the service offer. To promote and enhance psychological treatment capability within voluntary, community and faith sector (VCFS), where appropriate and with cultural sensitivity at the centre of any input. This may involve direct work within these organisations and/or setting up supervision or other support
  • To investigate how established and novel models of psychological therapies and modes of delivery to increase access to racially and ethnically minoritised groups can be implemented within secondary care psychological services
  • To establish training needs related to anti-racism and cultural humility within the local

Essential

  • Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by BPS, including specifically: models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more psychological therapies, three or more supervised clinical placements (including lifespan developmental psychology and mental health specialisms) and research skills.
  • Formal training in clinical supervision.
  • Additional relevant clinical and/or managerial knowledge and skills acquired through formal training, long or short courses, formal supervision (individual and/or group), structured self-study or experience (or a combination of these) to an appropriate level approved by the Head of Psychology and demonstrated by certification, documented supervision logs, management appraisal documentation and/or assessment at interview.
  • Project management training or interest in completing this when in role (e.g., PRINCE2
