Job summary

Would you like to be part of an exciting development that is taking place within our Dunstable community, within a new modern integrated health and social care hub? You will be part of The Dunstable Community Mental Health Service (previously known as the CMHT). This brand new development will be a 'one stop' hub where people can access high-quality care and services close to where they live making it accessible, convenient and easier for local residents to use. It will bring a mix of health and care professionals in a single location to promote more joined-up working between the NHS, the council, voluntary and community sectors.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will hold a caseload and work within the principles of the agreed model of care for the service as laid down in the operational policy. The post holder will work as an autonomous practitioner within an integrated team. This will involve the assessment planning, implementation and evaluation of the care provided and will liaise with all agencies involved with the client. The post holder will be required to administer prescribed medication which includes intramuscular injections.

The post holder will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring that the values outlined in the NHS Constitution are adhered to daily and any matters of concern are raised with the relevant Line Manager or through the necessary processes within the Trust. Responsible for delivering a compassionate, dignified and respectful service to patients at all times.
  • Continually delivering and maintaining high standards for a defined caseload as agreed with Line Manager.

  • Ensuring national targets and standards are achieved.
  • Building trust and developing relationships to ensure service user involvement.

As this new hub opens, we have decided to embrace this opportunity and to completely relocate the Dunstable CMHT into this new hub. The former site of Dunstable CMHT will be closed and all services will relocate to this Hub and go live on Thursday 1st June 2023. You will work closely with various other services such as GP Practices, the local authority adult social care, substance misuse and childrens services to name but a few. You will be joining the team at the very beginning of this exciting development. This team is part of the Mental Health Transformation of services and our new blended team where our voluntary service colleagues are fully embedded within the team. This is definitely an exciting time to join this expanding, developing and modern service.

The team is also made up of a rich resource of multidisciplinary professionals who support psychological ways of working. The team includes Registered Nurses, Social Workers. Doctors, Psychologists, Assistant Psychologist, Occupational Therapists, Support Recovery Workers, Peer Support Worker, Psychotherapists, Administrators and an Employment specialist as well as working closely within a designated locality with Primary care mental health link workers, the Local Authorities and voluntary services.

Essential

  • RNMH / RMNregistered by the NMC Or ? Qualified Social Worker registered by the HCP
  • Evidence of continued professional development

Desirable

  • Qualified Mental Health Social Work/Award/Appoi nted AMHP
  • Educated to Degree Level

Experience

Essential

  • Significant post-qualification experience, which must be within mental health services
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary environment/community experience
  • Experience of working within an NHS/Local Authority environment and an understanding of the issues/ policies/ practice within these environments.

Desirable

  • Previous appointment as an ASW/AMHP/Men tal Health Officer

Knowledge/Skills

Essential

  • Thorough understanding and working knowledge of mental disorder and the treatment options.
  • A thorough working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 and subsequent amendments
  • Working knowledge of the NHS & Community Care Act and other social care & mental health legislation, policy & guidance
  • Ability to assess and manage complex and high risk situations effectively for the benefit of service users and carers
  • Good report writing skills and the ability to compile complex case recording a nd report presentation, including legal documents i.e. social circumstances reports, court reports etc.
