Job summary

East London NHS Foundation Trust currently provides mental health and learning disability services in Luton and Bedfordshire.

An exciting opportunity has arisen on Coral Ward for current Band 6's as well as Band 5 RMNs who are looking to enhance their development and aspiring to become a Clinical Practice Lead (Band 6). This transition will be framed within the Band 5-6 Development Programme which is skills and competency driven.

The successful candidate will work at Coral Ward, Calnwood Court. Coral Ward is an all-male acute psychiatric assessment and treatment ward caring for men who are experiencing acute episodes of mental illness.

The Clinical Practice Lead will provide and facilitate a suitable learning environment for all learners and nursing staff who are internally and externally placed.

Coral Ward is recently AIMS accredited inpatient service (July 2021) that also received and achieved feedback that was rated Outstanding by the CQC in 2023.

The development programme will be a minimum of 6 months and maximum of up to 18 month post preceptorship. As a minimum, the ideal applicant would have completed their preceptorship.

The programme is driven by a competency booklet of which the successful applicant will be assessed on throughout the programme. The programme is a perfect methodical approach to learning through skills, knowledge and confidence. Upon completion of the programme, you will be proficient and fully competent at performing the Clinical Practice Lead role.

Main duties of the job

Completion of this programme will develop and increase you scope to provide you with a great platform and line you up to progressing to the next level even after the Clinical Practice Lead role.

The successful candidate will act up, be seconded and receive a pay salary equivalent to a Band 6 Clinical Practice Lead. The secondment will then be transitioned into a substantive role once your competencies have been achieved and signed off by your line manager (between 6-18 months).

The Band 5-6 Development posts are only available on Coral Ward.

The Clinical Practice Lead will act as an extension of the Clinical Nurse Manager and will maintain overall responsibility and accountability for the ward when the Clinical Nurse Manager is unavailable. The Clinical Practice Lead will lead clinically, influence decision making, manage situations and enhance the service users experience of the service in clinical practice.
