Job summary

  • An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Services for People with a Learning Disability within Bedfordshire and Luton for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist. This position can accommodate full or part time hours.

    We are a dynamic and forward thinking team that actively encourages and supports professional and service development. We work within a multidisciplinary community based team and see clients in their homes, day care settings or work places. Specialist intervention is offered to those with complex health needs and focuses on enabling an individuals occupational functioning.

    You should have some demonstrable experience of working with adults who have a Learning Disability and up-to-date knowledge of current OT provision for this client group. Post graduate training relevant to the post (eg autism, sensory integration, AMPS, dementia) is essential. You will need to hold a current UK driving license.

    Regular managerial and professional supervision will be provided and we also provide monthly opportunities to participate in OT Service-wide CPD events. Professional development and training are actively encouraged through the appraisal process, and we also offer specialist training opportunities and a Band 6 Support and Development programme .

Main duties of the job

  • To be an active member of the Learning Disability Occupational Therapy Service and Services for People who have a Learning Disability. To provide a person-centred Occupational Therapy Service for Adults with Learning Disabilities and complex healthcare needs.
  • To manage a defined caseload, use evidence-based/client-centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
  • To provide leadership, supervision and day-to-day management for other staff within the OT team as designated.
  • To regularly supervise OT students on practice placement
