Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified Band 6 Occupational Therapist to work with adults of working age, within the inpatient service at Tower hamlets centre for mental health.

You will be based within the Occupational Therapy department and work as part of this experienced team to provide a therapeutic activity programme to inpatient service users. You will also work closely with service users during their recovery, assessing their needs and providing treatment interventions to facilitate their successful discharge. The use of OT assessment and evaluation tools will be a part of your everyday practice. We are also developing sensory integration work within a trauma informed care approach, which you will be able to apply in your practice..

We require someone who is flexible and approachable. Effective communication skills, time management and organisational skills are essential, as is the ability to work well with all members of the multi-disciplinary team.

You will be expected to engage in activities related to your continuing professional development with a comprehensive supervision and appraisal structure. There are excellent opportunities to develop your professional, clinical and managerial skills.

Main duties of the job

To manage a caseload of clients with complex needs using evidence based/client centred principles.

To assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions, with particular emphasis on Millharbour/Rosebank Psychiatric Intensive Care/Low secure Unit, in coordination with other members of the Multi-disciplinary and occupational therapy team.

To take a lead in linking with the Psychiatric Intensive Care/Low secure Unit and the OT department at the Tower Hamlets Centre for Mental Health.

To work in community and in-patient settings.

To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of OT services within Tower Hamlets Centre for mental health.

To contribute to the maintenance and development of the Trust OT Service

To regularly supervise OT students on practice placement and provide supervision to junior staff.
