Job summary

We seek a consultant to lead an innovative Multidisciplinary Clinical Team working with a non-CPA patient group within Bedford's community mental health service. The post-holder will work closely with primary care colleagues in developing and implementing care pathways for individuals with mild to moderate mental health problems.

Bedford community mental health teams have undergone a process of redesign in order to focus on providing prompt assessment and intervention at the point of need within a new primary care-linked assessment service. By separating out some of the functions of a traditional CMHT, the new structure allows more of a focus on recovery for those with enduring mental health problems. You will join an established MDT with strong leadership.

This post offers exciting opportunity to be involved in the community mental health transformation to implement the Long term NHS plans.

You will be supported to train in our QI programme. Management and service development interests an asset.

Main duties of the job

  1. Provide overall clinical leadership as the Consultant Psychiatrist to the MDTR
  2. Take the clinical leadership role in scrutinizing, allocation of cases for review
  3. Offer accurate diagnosis and timely interventions so that intensive treatment can be delivered to prevent chronicity and dependency on psychiatric services.
  4. Provide clinical advice and guidance to primary care physicians to manage patients in the least restrictive environment
  5. Attend and be the clinical leader of weekly MDT meetings, supporting the team operational lead
  6. Work closely with the Crisis Resolution/Home Treatment Teams/ and liaise with inpatients services/primary care liaison service.
  7. We work with the recovery principals within the Community Mental Health Team.
  8. Provide appropriate supervision and training for junior medical staff
  9. Actively participate in the Trusts clinical and strategic development
