Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Highly Specialist Mental Health Practitioner with CAMHS experience to come and work in the socially and ethnically diverse borough of Newham.

Applicants who have experience and appreciation of some of the richness and complexities of working inter-culturally are welcomed. This post is part of a comprehensive Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service, within the East London NHS Foundation Trust. This post will include the provision of specialist CAMHS advice/consultation and mental health assessment, specialised clinical interventions and liaison with other agencies.

The successful candidate will be part of a stimulating and supportive multidisciplinary child and adolescent mental health team. There is a strong commitment to clinical supervision and professional development within CAMHS and the wider NHS Foundation Trust including many learning and teaching opportunities.

The role is to assist with the coordination of the Newham CAMHS Front Door (Intake) Team, which will include Clinical Supervision, Line management Supervision, Service Development in partnership with the leads of this pathway, and conduct Front Door Triage Assessments. There will also be an opportunity to provide brief interventions and co-facilitate Psychoeducational/therapeutic Workshops.

Main duties of the job

To provide comprehensive assessments including risk assessments of young people and their families/carers referred with emotional and behavioural difficulties, learning disability and /or autism spectrum disorders; or ADHD.

To provide telephone and/or face-to-face triage assessments of new referrals, contact clients within a standard timeframe and signpost to the appropriate service within or outside of CAMHS.

To provide consultation and where appropriate training to other professionals who come into contact with children, young people and their families/carers referred with moderate, complex and severe mental health problems.

To write confidential reports for court, case conferences, and education that may have wide ranging implications for children, young people and their families.

Based on these assessments and reports to convey sensitive, complex and sometimes unwelcome information to clients and other professionals and manage this as constructively as possible.

To be a resource of specialist advice, specifically relating to the common emotional and behavioural problems and disorders of children and young people, to colleagues within CAMHS, other professionals and other agencies/organisations working in the field of adolescent mental health.

To be regularly on the relevant duty rota, to accept referrals, provide consultation and be available to carry out urgent assessments.
