Principal Systemic Family Psychotherapist/ Principal Clinical or Counselling Psychologist Band 8b

This is an exciting opportunity for an experience Systemic Family Psychotherapist, Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to join the Community Eating Disorders Service in ELFT.

The post holder will provide high quality evidence-based eating disorder treatment as well as systemic/ psychological assessment, treatment and consultation to client systems including children, young people, their families, carers and professional networks. This post will provide additional senior clinical leadership in the team supporting the Clinical Team Leads (CTL)/ Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist.

The post holder will be responsible for and manage the therapies pathway in the service. They will provide supervision/consultation to EL CEDS-CYP clinicians and Trainees of associated disciplines in EL CEDS-CYP. Under guidance of the Clinical Team Lead and with support from other Psychological Therapies Leads, the post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating and developing specialist therapies services in EL CEDS-CYP including the planning, development and delivery of specialist training/teaching in eating disorders therapeutic assessment and intervention.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will directly contribute to the positive working environment within the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will require a high degree of professional autonomy and self-management and will be required to account for their professional practice through appraisal and audit.

The post holder will contribute to the wider functions of the team by care-coordinating a caseload of young people, being part of the triage of new referrals, duty rota, and providing sessions within the multidisciplinary assessment clinic that will follow standardised protocols including physical health, psychiatric, dietetic and psychological components.

The post-holder will work to support the safe medical management of young people.

Education, Training and Qualifications

Essential

  • Clinical/Counselling Psychology Honours degree. Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS.
  • Or Family & Systemic Psychotherapy Qualification in appropriate mental health/social welfare profession such as Social Work, Clinical Psychology, Nursing or Counselling. Masters or Doctoral level qualification in Systemic Psychotherapy or AFT agreed equivalent
  • UKCP Registration or HCPC registration
  • Supervision training

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of four years of experience of working with children, young people and families in a multi-disciplinary team in child and adolescent mental health and/or social care contexts.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychotherapeutic care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care coordinator and also within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.
  • Experience of self-harm assessment and intervention with both individual child/adolescent and their families
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary or multi-agency teams
  • Experience of risk assessment and risk management
  • Experience of liaison and joint work with other statutory services including Social Services and Education and voluntary agencies, including crisis management
  • Experience of working in a multi-ethnic community, working with interpreters and able to provide a culturally competent service.
  • Experience of line management and supervision of trainees and junior colleagues
