Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to develop an SLT SEND EHCP Tribunal and appeals pathway. The successful candidate will be based in the Paediatric SLT team in Newham and will guide the SLT service in developing effective EHCP advice, provide support for EHCP appeals and disputes and attend SEND Tribunals as necessary.
The role will involve providing support and advice to other SLT team members in their duties concerning SEND EHCP assessments and in identifying areas of improvement in practice across the service. The role will also require developing excellent communication and working relationships with the local authority SEND team to provide early support and intervention when there are appeals or disputes.
The post holder will be required to offer specialist assessment and intervention for children and young people undergoing EHCP assessment, and will hold their own small caseload. The will support more junior staff within the service and provide supervision, competency development and contribute to the learning and development programme for all SLT staff. There will be opportunity for service improvement and development working alongside the 8a Clinical Lead for schools.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will have relevant experience of working with children and families, experience of SEND EHCP assessment and delivery and a working knowledge of the SEND duties for SLTs. Experience of attending SENDIST Tribunal is desirable but not essential, as we are keen to support staff in developing knowledge and skills in this area.

The children's speech and language therapy service has a strong multi-agency work ethic with other services both within the trust and with partner agencies, and offers services across a wide range of care groups in the borough.
