Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 mental health nurse to develop their nursing and therapeutic skills and knowledge within a supportive, dynamic environment and an award winning team.

The North Bedfordshire CAMHS Crisis Home Treatment Team are a newly developed multi-disciplinary team, who work with partnership agencies to provide a high quality service to children and their families presenting in mental health crisis. The team provides rapid assessment and short term evidence-based crisis and when necessary intensive home treatment support for children and young people aged up to 18. We are looking for an enthusiastic mental health nurse to join our friendly and professional team. We are happy to accept applications from newly qualified nurses as will be offering a robust preceptorship programme and induction period.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be required to support senior mental health practitioners to undertake assessments of children, young people and families presenting in mental health crisis and who may require brief crisis intervention or intensive home treatment support to reduce risk and or provide an alternative to inpatient admission. Under supervision and guidance you will be supported to provide therapeutic nursing and crisis/ home treatment intervention for young people open to our service

Successful candidates will be supported to acquire the necessary skills and experience to enable them to continue their professional development and progression in their nursing career. We have recently successfully supported a newly qualified mental health nurse through their preceptorship programme and who now works as a Band 6 mental health nurse within the team.

The Senior Management Team within Beds CAMHS is committed to staff development: there are regular opportunities for staff to apply for appropriate training courses and to get involved in quality improvement initiatives and new developments in the service, some associated with a higher banding during the time of the project. We also have a significant number of positions in the trust for clinicians up to band 8D, opening up paths for promotion for ambitious members of staff.

This post is based in Bedford, Bedfordshire, close to the M1 and easily reached by rail and car from North London, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire. The clinic also has the added benefit of free parking and all clinicians are supported by very dedicated and efficient administrative staff.
