Job summary
We are looking to recruit a permanent 8a full time Clinical Psychologist across Hackney and Newham Health Team for Adults with Learning Disabilities.
We currently have two 8a vacancies within ELFT learning disability services; x1 0.4WTE 8a role based in the Newham Health Team and x1 0.6WTE 8a role based in the Hackney Integrated Learning Disability Service. We are advertising these posts as a combined 1.0 WTE (37.5hrs per week) role split across the two teams this reflects our close working arrangements across the learning disability services within the trust. We do also welcome applicants interested in either of the part time roles please do state this clearly in your supporting information.
Main duties of the job
The Newham team primarily works with clients with Severe and Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities who have unmet health needs. We also work with clients with Mild or Moderate Learning Disabilities if they are not able to access mainstream services with reasonable adjustments. There are many exciting projects either actively in progress, or on the horizon. Some of our current service development work focuses on trauma-informed care, anti racism, people participation, transition & STOMP.

Essential
- Good honours degree in psychology
- Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS
- Clinical supervision training for Doctoral trainees and qualified Clinical Psychologists
- Eligibility for graduate membership of BPS
- HCPC registration
- Relevant specialist training or qualifications e.g. CBT, systemic therapies, neuropsychology, etc.
- Relevant HR training appropriate to the post requirements. (e.g. recruitment, appraisal, sickness and absence, discipline, grievances etc.)
Desirable
- Post doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
- Formal training in clinical management and/or leadership
Experience
Essential
- Assessed experience working as a qualified clinical psychologist for a minimum of 2 years
- Experience of working with a wide variety of people with learning disabilities from profound to mild and borderline clients, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, inpatient and residential care settings including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse
- Experience of working with individuals with challenging and very hostile behaviours
- Experience of working with adults who have been abused or neglected
- Experience of providing consultation to other psychologists, other health and non-health professionals and to carers in all aspects of care of adults with learning disabilities
- Experience of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working
- Experience of teaching and training
- Experience of assessing and treating the mental health needs of clients with learning disabilities
- Work in a multi-cultural setting, including working with interpreters

- Experience of staff management and clinical supervision
