Highly Specialist Clinical/Counselling Psychologist
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 8a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to provide psychological expertise within Newham Centre for Mental Health (NCMH). We would welcome applications from Band 7 qualified psychologists with the relevant experience. Previous experience working in acute services and/or a considered appreciation of the role of psychology within these settings are highly desirable.

You will be responsible for providing psychological expertise to two wards through individual and group therapy sessions, staff consultation, reflective practice, supervision and teaching. These wards provide a triage function for new hospital admissions and acute beds for extra contractual referrals (ECR).

You will be encouraged to explore clinical and/or research CPD activity of your choice amounting to one session (half a day) per week which could involve working with the local specialist psychotherapy service offering individual and/or group interventions within CBT, integrative, psychodynamic and systemic modalities.
This role is on a part time basis (30 hrs per week) however there is a high possibility that extra funding will be available so that this role can be offered on a full time basis. This can be discussed at interview. We would encourage you to apply!
Main duties of the job
To ensure the systematic provision of a high-quality specialist clinical/counselling psychology service to service users admitted to Newham Centre for Mental Health.
To supervise, support, and co-ordinate the psychological work provided by other psychologists and other clinical members of the service who provide psychologically based care and treatment.
To promote and facilitate psychological capability within the inpatient teams (e.g. via consultation, staff support and reflection, training and leadership).
To forge effective links and working relationships with colleagues across the inpatient-community pathway in order to understand the psychological needs within these settings and across this interface.
To provide specific psychological expertise and input around complex case presentations.
To engage in regular clinical and operational supervision with a senior psychologist.
To work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the team.
