Band 7 Lead Learning Disability Acute Liaison Nurse - (Specialist Healthcare Team, Bedfordshire and Luton)
A development opportunity has arisen, to join our LD Acute Liaison Service on a secondment or fixed term contract, for twelve months. This is part of the Learning Disability Service in Bedfordshire and Luton, provided by East London Foundation NHS Trust. (ELFT)
The post is based at Bedford Hospital - 37.5 hours per week.
This is a role for a dynamic and compassionate registered nurse who is committed to supporting the needs of adults with a learning disability as they access hospital environments.
You must be passionate about ensuring a high-quality, holistic approach to the health care being provided to people with learning disabilities.
You will be supported to develop your leadership skills within an established team, to enhance your practice and engage with a range of different agencies. The Trust actively encourages professional development through the appraisal and supervision process, and you will be provided with regular supervision.
Knowledge of local and national health initiatives, which focus on the health of people who have a learning disability is a key requirement of this job. Additionally, a sound knowledge and understanding of physical health conditions which affect the learning disability population is essential.
You will work alongside multidisciplinary clinical teams in Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust and ELFT NHS Trust.
Main duties of the job
Working collaboratively will be a major part of the role - Liaising with Hospital departments and wards, the Specialist Healthcare Team, the Intensive Support Team, Community Learning Disability Teams in Local Authority areas, Care Provider organisations, Voluntary organisation and of course, patients and carers.
This post is based at Bedford General Hospital with the expectation that the role will work in partnership with colleagues across ELFT and Bedfordshire Hospitals Trust.
We would like to hear from you if you have a minimum of five years demonstrable nursing experience working with people who have a learning disability and the ability to deliver Quality Improvement initiatives.

- Registered Nurse - Learning Disabilities (RNLD) or equivalent
- A post-registration specialist qualification to at least degree level e.g B.Sc. Honours in Community Nursing & Specialist Learning Disability Nursing Practice
- Evidence of continuing professional, clinical and educational development (i.e. short courses to Masters level equivalent)
- Teaching qualification (i.e. ENB 998 or equivalent)
- A full understanding of national and local health priorities/policies/drivers and their application to clinical practice, service and organisations e.g. Valuing People Now, Six Lives, Healthcare for All, Standards for Better Health.
- Understanding of clinical governance issues
