Job summary
Luton and Bedford mental health Inpatient services has continued to develop and improve the quality and standard of care provided to our local community. This is an exciting opportunity to join the team as we continue to build on our successes, take on new challenges and improve the quality of care we provide. The post holder will need to have experience of leadership, management of teams and the ability to manage complex relationships both internally and externally. Inpatient services need to be responsive and adaptive and this will require a high level of organisation, structure and responsiveness.
There will be 2 Deputy Lead Nurses and the post holder will be working closely with their counterpart for Luton Inpatient Services. Whilst the post holder will be aligned to Bedford services the expectation is that they work with and support all wards within the Inpatient Service pathway. Both Deputy Lead Nurses will be accountable to the Assistant Director for Inpatient Services.
Inpatient services are being developed to improve existing facilities and provisions for service users and carers. We will be building a new purpose built unit in Bedford and updating facilities in Luton- the Deputy Lead Nurses will be key to these work streams and have a real opportunity to shape and influence the future of mental health inpatient services locally.
Main duties of the job
Overall Management responsibility for a set number of wards in the services.
- Set up clear monitoring / feedback / structure / system that enable us to understand and challenge nursing practice.
- Nursing lead for Service developments in your area
- Work closely with the Head of Nursing to effectively manage beds, admissions, discharges and transfer
- Nurse Management lead for Infection Control
- Work closely with Lead nurse to effectively manage beds, admissions, discharges and transfer- Nurse Management lead for Infection Control- Provide advanced advice, support and expertise both within the service and to generic inpatient and locality / community teams.- Coordinate Nursing assessments of patients and expertise both within the trust and outside the trust.- Play active role in setting up and developing MDT meetings that define strategy for future.- Deputize for the lead nurse in their absence taking responsibility for the operational management of the service.
- To lead on the local development of policy and practice that reflect the needs of service users, implementing evidence based practice contributing further to the knowledge base by evaluation of practice.- To work with Lead nurse on local workforce development and recruitment initiatives.- To undertake Senior Manager on call duties as required. Co-ordinate, manage and respond to emergency situations.
