Job summary

ELFT has joined the East of England New Care Models provider collaborative for adult community eating disorder services. This aims to reduce cost, improve patient experience and improve effectiveness by improving community eating disorders services to treat closer to home reducing use of specialist eating disorder units out of area.

Beds and Luton Adult Community Eating Disorder service is a small, well led, multidisciplinary team providing evidence based psychological therapy and gatekeeping inpatient admissions for individuals with severe and complex eating disorders. It has a reputation for outcomes with the most challenging cases and for truly working with our patients as individuals.

We work as a team, supporting one another, collaborating with experts by experience and partner agencies, and innovating:

active in the clinical design of the East of England New Care Model to improve community treatment to reduce out of area inpatient placements.

Our commissioners are backing an exciting expansion and transformation to offer all the core functions of a specialist eating disorder service, including care for those with severe and enduring eating disorders, intensive community treatment and medical monitoring alongside primary care.

Main duties of the job

We seek an enthusiastic consultant with a passion for specialising in eating disorder to lead medically across these new functions and offer senior specialist clinical assessment and treatment. This is a new Full time post replacing an arrangement of a CMHT consultant providing 2 sessions. To promote recovery positive risk taking and effective risk management are essential.

The service will become a pioneer in the care of eating disorders and there are many opportunities to shape the transformation and lead stimulating new service developments, in line with trust values, inclusive of our diverse population and trauma informed.

You will be supported to train in our QI programme. Management and service development interests an asset.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Fully registered with the General Medical Council
  • Eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register (or Specialist Registrar within 6 months of gaining CCT at time of interview).
  • Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines)
  • Eligible for Section 12 Approval (Mental Health Act)/ Approved Clinician or willing to apply for such approval once in post.

Desirable

  • A higher degree such as MD or PhD

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Experience of clinical work in General Adultl Psychiatry at SpR, SASG or consultant level within the last 3 years
  • Excellent working knowledge and experience of the application of the Mental Health Act
  • Appreciation and understanding of ethnic minority issues and a commitment to developing culturally sensitive practices
  • Understanding of social factors relevant to psychiatry
  • Robust experience of working with severe and enduring mental illness and risk assessment, management

Desirable

  • Experience of service development and introducing new services in mental health
  • Experience of working at consultant level with physical health interface.
