Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 8a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to provide psychological expertise within Newham Centre for Mental Health (NCMH). We would welcome applications from Band 7 qualified psychologists with the relevant experience. Previous experience working in acute services and/or a considered appreciation of the role of psychology within these settings are highly desirable. Job share and flexible working options are available within this role.

You will be responsible for providing psychological expertise to two acute psychiatric wards through individual and group therapy sessions, staff consultation, reflective practice, supervision and teaching.

This is an exciting role that includes a broad range of leadership development opportunities such as leadership of service delivery. Newham has embarked on an inpatient Quality Improvement project which you will be encouraged to join. Your views and ideas would be valued in the development, delivery and leadership of this project. You will also be part of staff development initiatives, trauma-informed care training and supervision. Within the Acute Psychology Service we pride ourselves on our strong peer support network. You will be a valued member of a team consisting of qualified psychologists, trainees and assistants working across seven inpatient adult mental health wards at NCMH. We also have strong links with the acute inpatient services in the other ELFT boroughs.

Main duties of the job

You will be encouraged to explore clinical and/or research CPD activity of your choice amounting to one session (half a day) per week which could involve working with the local specialist psychotherapy service offering individual and/or group interventions within CBT, integrative, psychodynamic and systemic modalities.

The Trust has embraced flexible working and encourages a hybrid way of working that is within the scope of the role. Thus we are keen to explore working-from-home opportunities, particularly for in-direct aspects of this role.

This role is on a full time basis (37.5 hrs per week) however we welcome job share and/or flexible working arrangements. This can be discussed at interview.
