Band 5 - Occupational Therapists Paediatric Learning Programme

Paediatric Community Services- Newham, East London Foundation Trust

Based at the child development centre, near Stratford in the London Borough of Newham, close to the Olympic Park in the heart of Londons East End (with excellent transport links with the rest of London and Essex) the childrens occupational therapy service has a strong multi-agency work ethic with other services both within the trust and with partner agencies, and offers services across a wide range of care groups in the borough.

Newhams Occupational Therapy service for Children has some exciting news to share! Our team is expanding following unprecedented investment of 11 posts into our service, across all bandings in April 2022.

We are calling on all those amazing OTs to join us as we embark on one of the most exciting challenges in our service history, as we develop new ways of working to improve outcomes for children and young people, and make this team one of the biggest and most successful Childrens OT Services in London.

Education

Essential

  • Occupational Therapy Degree or equivalent
  • Maintenance of continuing professional development portfolio
  • Registration with Health Professions Council

Experience

Essential

  • The ability to demonstrate continued learning during student placements
  • Experience of a range of student placements

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working with children in any setting is an advantage and this may include voluntary experiences
  • Post graduate experience in paediatrics

Knowledge

Essential

  • Ability to establish a therapeutic relationship with a client and their carers/families motivating them to participate in the therapeutic process
  • Ability to sustain concentration and maintain a pro-active role during the assessment and treatment of a client
  • Ability to administer and interpret standardised tests relevant to client group when diagnosing specific problems e.g. perceptual and cognitive deficits
  • Ability to analyse the assessment information, then devise and implement occupational therapy treatment programmes specific to the individual client
  • Ability to develop and apply specialist knowledge and skills in advising others on the care and treatment of children in relation to the specific specialism
  • Ability to use information technology including emails, Microsoft word, excel and power point and maintain electronic care records, and produce reports for use by others both internal and external to the Trust, e.g. assessment reports, advice on special educational needs
