Job summary

An exciting Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Practitioner/Teacher post has emerged within Newham to work with the recently established Bodily Distress Disorder Service (BDD) for people presenting with medically unexplained symptoms (MUS). The service was initially set up as a pilot as part of the community transformation agenda, bridging care pathways between primary and secondary care. Following the successful pilot, the service is being permanently established within Newham.

Main duties of the job

- To deliver MBSR assessment and treatment for groups of patients with BDD/MUS in GPpractices in Newham locality.- To familiarise themselves with the treatment manual for Bodily Distress Disorder andattend the training.- To keep clear and coherent records/notes on the groups following the group protocolrecord form.- To attend regular supervision.- To promote and apply equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory interventions that respect - To deliver MBSR assessment and treatment for groups of patients with BDD/MUS in GPpractices in Newham locality.- To familiarise themselves with the treatment manual for Bodily Distress Disorder andattend the training.- To keep clear and coherent records/notes on the groups following the group protocolrecord form.- To attend regular supervision.- To promote and apply equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory interventions that respect the patient's customs, values and spiritual beliefs at all times.

Essential

  • Degree level training at masters level or equivalent linked to professional registration
  • HCPC, NMC, UKCP or other professional body registered clinician
  • Additional training in Mindfulness-Based Approaches (e.g. participation in 8 week MBCT/MBSR course, attendance at Teacher Development Training programme or similar)
  • Membership with relevant Professional Body

Experience

Essential

  • Significant post qualification experience as clinician delivering mindfulness interventions
  • Specialist knowledge of group interventions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Developed interpersonal skills enabling therapeutic alliances to be developed and maintained with patients who have complex needs
