Band 5 Physiotherapist (Adults with Learning Disabilities)
We are looking for a dynamic, professional and enthusiastic Band 5 Physiotherapist to join our friendly and supportive team. You will be part of a multi-professional Adult Learning Disability Team within the London Borough of Newham, providing services to a culturally diverse population of adults with Learning Disabilities.
This is an opportunity to gain experience within the field of Learning Disabilities whilst also coming into contact with a wide scope of clinical presentations inclusive of neurological, musculoskeletal and respiratory conditions.
The main priorities will be to provide one to one assessment and individually tailored therapy within home and community settings.
This will include 24hr Postural care, provision of specialist equipment, management of long term conditions, training and health promotion as well as being available to give advice and offer expert opinion to parents, family members, carers, care providers, local authorities and other health care professionals. You will also provide group hydrotherapy sessions, Rebound Therapy sessions and exercise classes within specialist and mainstream gym and pool facilities in the community.
Main duties of the job
Newham Health Learning Disabilities Service (NHLD) is a Health lead service of London Borough of Newham employing health practitioners, providing a service to adults with a Learning Disability. The post is part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) which includes Consultant psychiatrists, Care Managers, Nurses, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Clinical Psychologists and works closely with external agencies including Social Services. You will work closely with a highly specialist physiotherapist.
Working in a Learning Disability health team, the post holder will assess, plan, implement, evaluate and lead the person centred care approach for people with learning disabilities on their defined caseload. This defined caseload will include clients with a range of ability levels, challenges and needs working as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team. The post holder will be required to work as an autonomous practitioner in the community, in a variety of settings, contributing to service promotion and delivery of the health agenda for people with a learning disability in line with related legislation.
