Band 5 Learning Disability Liaison Nurse (SPLD Bedfordshire and Luton)
Are you passionate about working with people who have a learning disability and supporting themto access health services when they need to?The opportunity has arisen based at Bedford Hospital, within the Acute Liaison Nurses Service. This ispart of the Learning Disability Service in Bedfordshire and Luton, East London Foundation NHS Trust.(ELFT)
The post is 37.5 hours per week.
This is a role for a dynamic and compassionate registered nurse, committed to supporting the needsof adults with a learning disability who are accessing a general hospital setting.
You will need to be passionate about ensuring a high-quality, holistic approach to the health careand support provided to people with learning disabilities, in the hospitals' environment. You will berequired to work autonomously and, as part of a wider team
You will be supported to develop your nursing skills within an established team, to enhance yourautonomous practice and engage with a range of different agencies.
Knowledge of local and national health initiatives focussing on the needs of people who have alearning disability is a key requirement. Additionally, a sound knowledge and understanding ofphysical health conditions which affect the learning disability population is essential.

Main duties of the job
The Learning Disability Liaison Nurse role exists to ensure that the needs of the person with a Learning Disability are met when they require admission to hospital. This involves communicating with and working in partnership with a range of clinicians and services working to change systems and educating where appropriate. It also involves close communication and involvement with family, carers and others during the admission period.
