Lead for Specialist Psychological Therapies
We are seeking to appoint a Lead for Specialist Psychological Therapies within our Specialist Psychotherapy Service in City & Hackney, which provides a range of specialist treatments in secondary care for people who have had long-standing difficulties in relation to anxiety, mood, and/or experiences of trauma and/or in establishing fulfilling relationships. This is part of a job share with the existing part of the role and we are looking for someone to commit to 22.5 hours per week. We are looking for an experienced psychological therapist (Registered Psychotherapist, Applied Psychologist), who has delivered psychological treatments within a complex healthcare setting, and who can lead on the co-ordination and development of the specialist modality-specific treatments offered within our secondary care specialist psychotherapy service.
The post-holder will have experience in providing effective treatments to clients within a secondary care setting, presenting with complex, long-standing and often comorbid psychological and emotional difficulties. They will have experience of overseeing the delivery of psychological treatment pathways, ensuring a secure supervision, CPD and management structure for substantive and honorary staff across the specialist modality treatment pathways.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder is responsible for leading on the co-ordination and development of the specialist modality-specific treatments offered by SPS, providing line management supervision to the Senior Leads for Trauma-Focussed and Relationally-Focussed Psychotherapies.
- The post holder is responsible for the co-ordination of learning opportunities for honorary psychotherapists, practitioners and trainees of various disciplines, ensuring that the governance and infrastructure for supporting honorary placements within SPS is maintained.
- In collaboration with the SPS Senior Management Team and the Psychological Therapies Operational Management Group, the post holder is responsible for co-ordinating and developing a CPD and academic learning programme for psychological therapists.
- In collaboration with the SPS Senior Management Team and the Psychological Therapies Operational Management Group, the post holder will assist in the novel adaptation of modality-specific interventions to meet the varying needs of individuals and communities served within the neighbourhoods.

Essential
- Post Graduate Doctoral level training in Clinical or Counselling Psychology or equivalent accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS)
- Have an NHS Core Profession (Nurse, Allied Health Profession, Medical Doctor, Social Worker) or demonstrable equivalent knowledge, skills and attitudes.
- Have completed a minimum of one year of recognised full-time (or equivalent part-time) psychological therapy or counselling training leading to a qualification, certification or accreditation recognised by a relevant professional or regulatory body plus relevant specialist short courses.
- Have completed an equivalent training abroad as recognised by NARIC and written and oral English sufficient for their work
- Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.
- Models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and Neuro-psychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies, three or more supervised clinical placements (including lifespan developmental psychology and mental health specialisms) and research skills.
- Clinical supervision training for doctoral clinical /counselling psychology trainees.
- Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Registered by a body overseen or accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA)

- Assessed experience of working as a qualified Clinical or Counselling or Forensic psychologist at a highly specialist level or assessed experience of working as a qualified psychotherapist, including post qualification experience as a psychotherapist, preferably in the NHS or similar public health provider.
- Demonstrate further specialist experience through CPD including supervised practice supplemented with other activities such as training, self-directed study and conferences relevant to the current state of the speciality.
- the principles and implementation of the CPA process
- Providing specialist psychological assessment, including cognitive and neurological assessment, and treatment of patients utilising at least two main models as appropriate across the full range of care settings and clinical severity including outpatient, community, primary care and inpatient.
