Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist Band 8a (Adult Autism Service)

The Adult Autism Service is an innovative and multi-disciplinary countywide service across Bedfordshire and Luton. The purpose of this service is to provide local assessment and diagnosis for adults who may have an autistic spectrum condition, enabling access to the appropriate services in order to manage their needs.

We are looking for an enthusiastic clinician motivated to work with people who may have autism spectrum conditions. The successful candidate will work as part of a well-integrated, capable multidisciplinary team delivering high quality evidence-based services for this group.

The post offers the opportunity to engage in diagnostic assessments, formulations, signposting and a small element of psycho-education and individual case work.

The successful applicant will be part of a supportive multidisciplinary team that is highly committed to continuing professional development.

The post will be based at Twinwoods Resource Centre, Milton Road, Bedford with flexibility to work across the county.

Main duties of the job

  1. To provide a qualified clinical psychology service to the Adult Autism Service which provides assessment and diagnosis for people who are suspected of having Autism. The post holder would provide highly specialist psychological assessments and interventions as well as post diagnostic treatment and signposting as required. This would include offering advice and consultation on service user's psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other non-professional carers.
  2. The post holder would be expected to work autonomously within professional guidelines and within the overall framework of Trust policies and procedures. In addition, the postholder would be expected to utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the service.
  3. The post holder will work within the agreed model of care for the service as laid down in the operational policy. The post holder will both set local and adhere to national standards appropriate to the health and social care setting.

  • Demonstrates skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management.
