We are looking for an experienced, forward thinking and motivated Child Psychotherapist to join our friendly and professional multi-disciplinary CAMHS team based in Luton.
The Luton Emotional & Behavioral Team (E&B) is a pathway within the wider South Bedfordshire CAMHS service with other teams providing support for specialist areas (e.g. Adolescent Mental Health Team, Eating Disorders, LAC, Neurodevelopmental Difficulties) and an expanding community team supporting GP surgeries and schools. We are commissioned to deliver a wide range of mental health assessments and treatments to children and young people between the ages of 0-18. The service is made up of a multidisciplinary team of: Management and administrative staff, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Psychotherapists, Art therapists, Family therapists, Counsellors, Nurse Specialists and Primary Mental Health Workers.
Main duties of the job
The community served is multi-ethnic, culturally diverse, and socially deprived and we welcome applicants who are skilled in working with trauma informed practice to address and to engage with the complexity of this socio-multicultural context. The Community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services in East London NHS Foundation Trust have been rated as Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission. There are good links with Education, Children's Social Care and voluntary sector organisations locally.
The successful applicant will provide a specialist child psychotherapy service to clients of South Beds CAMHS, providing specialist child psychotherapy assessment and treatment and offering advice and consultation to non-psychotherapy colleagues and to other non-professional carers from a variety of psychoanalytic, childhood psychosocial developmental and mental health perspectives. The senior child psychotherapist will provide a range of specialist child and adolescent psychotherapy interventions as required (short-term, medium and long-term interventions as well as state of mind assessments and inter-agencies consultations). Long-term (weekly and intensive) interventions and Short Term Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (STTP) are well-established resources within the team as well as Parent-Child Psychotherapy.

The team has a long-standing reputation in hosting full-time Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy Trainees across all the training schools and the post-holder will contribute with service supervision, identifying training cases and liaising with the training schools.
There are close links with Bedfordshire Perinatal Service and a newly established inpatient adolescent unit and the post-holder will be expected to work with the Lead Child Psychotherapist to contribute to the development of psychotherapy services across the clinical pathways. The post-holder will also work closely with the LAC pathway CTL and will provide regular consultations, training and reflective practice groups to social care. There is also scope to develop skills in running groups for young people and parents as required by the current service needs.
The post-holder will require a high degree of professional autonomy and self-management, and the ability to work well in a team. You will be supported by regular clinical and management supervision sessions, access to a variety of CPD sessions, and annual performance appraisals. You will also participate in weekly clinical discussions across the clinical teams and will be part of the regular South Bedfordshire Child Psychotherapy Discipline meetings as well as the quarterly trust-wide meetings.
This post is based in Luton, close to the M1 and the clinic is five minutes walk from the train station and ELFT trust provides a significant discount on season train tickets. There is also the added benefit of free parking and all clinicians are supported by very dedicated and efficient administrative staff.Most of the core CAMHS team work will be based in the clinic or remote, but access to a car is helpful as there is limited public transport in the area.
