East London NHS Foundation Trust

Locum Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist

Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

The Trust is seeking a consultant psychiatrist to join the well established Community Recovery Team in North Newham. The post-holder will manage the care of individuals with severe and enduring mental health problems working across community and inpatient settings, retaining consultant responsibility across the care pathway in an integrated service - consequently this is a rare opportunity to work in a post that straddles both inpatients and the community.

Community services in Newham have recently received substantial investment as part of NHS England's community transformation, part of the NHS 10 year plan

Main duties of the job

The traditional model of CMHT/sectorised inpatient care has been partially retained (for those requiring care coordination) in Newham in order to minimise transitions between services. As such the post-holder will manage both inpatients and community patients. Close links are maintained between community teams and their corresponding inpatient wards.

The Newham crisis care pathway comprising psychiatry liaison, the crisis assessment service and Home Treatment Team, and the Newham inpatient Triage Wards operates seamlessly to offer support to patients in crisis and to provide alternatives to inpatient admission at the earliest appropriate opportunity. All inpatient admissions are to either Ruby or Ivory Triage Wards in the first instance and only where the need for a longer period of recovery-focused inpatient care is identified, will a patient be transferred to the relevant locality ward, under the care of the locality consultant.

Mental healthcare in Newham is built upon the foundations of high quality primary mental healthcare and as such, the post-holder will be expected to work closely with their linked GPs.
