Job summary

Inpatient Services aim to cultivate a therapeutic environment that is conducive to optimising mental health recovery. The multi professional team includes medical and nursing staff, psychologists, occupational, art and drama therapists, pharmacists and the cultural and spiritual care team.

There are 9 inpatient wards located across Luton & Dunstable, Houghton Regis and Bedford. All wards are single gender with the exception of the Older Adult wards.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking to recruit ambitious and motivated speciality doctors in psychiatry to join our inpatient Team. Successful applicants will have at least 3 years of experience working in psychiatry and will ideally be Section 12 approved. If you are interested in applying or CESR via the article 14 route in the future.ELFT is a teaching Trust.

We work closely with the institute of Healthcare, Improvement, and partners across the BLMK Integrated Care System to drive innovation in healthcare. Our staff are actively encouraged to engage in and lead transformation work.

Work within a multidisciplinary setting offering psychiatric medical input in the assessment, treatment and care management of patients, carrying out all general duties including mental state examinations. Provide up to date, effective, safe medical care for patients in order to promote theirrecovery, and promote their insight with a view to relapse prevention. Provide physical care in liaison with primary care services and the in house GP services. Offer advice and support to other members of the team in issues related to his/her competence and expertise. Qualifications

Essential

  • Fully registered with the General Medical Council
  • Approval under Section 12(2) of Mental Health Act 1983, or plan to gain approval within 6 months of appointment.

Desirable

  • A higher degree such as MD or PhD
  • Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines)
  • Eligible for Approved Clinician Status

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Experience of clinical work in Acute Adult Psychiatry at SpR, SASG or Consultant level within the last 3 years
  • Good working knowledge and experience of the application of the Mental Health Act
  • Appreciation and understanding of ethnic minority issues and a commitment to developing culturally sensitive practices
  • Understanding of social factors relevant to psychiatry
  • Robust experience of working with severe and enduring mental illness and risk assessment, management

Desirable

  • Experience of working in forensic settings
  • Experience of working in PICU
  • Experience of Quality Improvement projects
