Job summary
We are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment (CRHT) Service in Bedford. This post is a created to have a second Consultant within the service. We are looking for consultants who are committed to the principles of co-production and quality improvement, and enjoys working collaboratively with a fully staffed multidisciplinary team to provide excellent mental health care for our service users.
Its an exciting time to join Luton and Bedford ELFT Crisis Pathway Services, having recently benefitted from significant investment and transformation, including 24/7 CRHT, 24/7 crisis line offer through NHS 111, and the development of crisis cafes with our partner MIND.
Bedfordshire and Luton is a great place to live and work, sitting at the heart of the three counties in the rolling Chilterns, which have been designated an area of outstanding natural beauty. The area boasts a multitude of picturesque villages, and outstanding Ofsted rated state and independent schools, and St Albans, Hitchin and Berkhamsted, (Sunday Times Best Place to Live 2019), all a short distance away.
Main duties of the job
For commuters, Bedfordshire and Luton are very well connected, with frequent direct trains to London St Pancras which can be reached in 20 minutes from Luton and 45 minutes from Bedford. The M1 and M25 are easily accessible, and Luton Airport enables direct links to cities across mainland Europe, and beyond.
This post is being advertised as a full time position, however we would welcome a conversation about individual requirements including job share, flexible working and part time working. QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
- Fully registered with the General Medical Council
- On the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT, on approved higher training scheme
- Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines)
- Approval under Section 12(2) of Mental Health Act 1983
Desirable
- A higher degree such as MD or PhD
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Experience of clinical work in Acute Adult Psychiatry at SpR, SASG or consultant level within the last 3 years
- Excellent working knowledge and experience of the application of the Mental Health Act
- Appreciation and understanding of ethnic minority issues and a commitment to developing culturally sensitive practices
- Understanding of social factors relevant to psychiatry
- Robust experience of working with severe and enduring mental illness and risk assessment, management

- Experience of service development and introducing new services in mental health
