Job summary

We are looking for a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist. The post comprises 0.5 WTE as part of the Complex Trauma Service in the borough and as part of the Trauma Informed Care project in the Transformation of Mental Health Services in the Communities we serve.

Experience of working with complex mental health problems in NHS settings is essential. The job offers a great opportunity to further your skills; as well as regular supervision, there are forums for support and professional development. The post holder will also be actively involved in consultation, teaching and training. The therapist will monitor and evaluate treatment offered to service users. They will participate in an area of the service delivery within the team, with the support of the Complex Trauma Leads.

Main duties of the job

To provide direct clinical work and indirect clinical work in the area of Complex Trauma and Trauma Informed Care;

To provide specialist assessment and treatment recommendations for service users with severe, enduring and complex trauma presentations;

To coproduce and co-deliver teaching and training with experts-by-experience and therapists from other disciplines;

To provide clinical supervision and consultation to psychological therapies staff who work within multi-disciplinary services;

To promote and support the implementation of Trauma Informed Care in all aspects and areas of their work;

To work within the principles of a community psychology framework;To contribute where appropriate to the strategic development of psychotrauma provision within the Trust in consultation with senior colleagues;

Essential

  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or equivalent (statement of equivalence (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996)) and able to demonstrate eligibility for BPS CPsychol (Chartered Psychologist) or Doctorate in Counselling Psychology and able to demonstrate eligibility for BPS CPsychol (Chartered Psychologist)
  • HCPC registration
  • BPS accredited degree in psychology or equivalent
  • Specialist training in at least two therapeutic treatments for psychological trauma
  • Clinical supervision training for doctoral clinical /counselling psychology trainees

Desirable

  • Further training in a therapeutic modality relevant to severe and enduring mental health
  • Accreditation as a Supervisor for Psychology and/or Psychotherapy
  • Training in evidence-based psychological treatments for complex PTSD including EMDR, Narrative Exposure Therapy and Trauma Focused CBT Training in structural/ tertiary dissociation and/or

  • Experience of planning and exercising full clinical responsibility for service users' psychological care and treatment.

  • Experience of developing and delivering specialist training programmes
  • Experience of providing teaching, training and clinical supervision for interventions and treatments of psychological trauma.
  • Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts. Experience of working with service users with high levels of dissociation and/or DID presentations.
