Biomedical Scientist Team Leader - Cellular Pathology

Job summary

  • Deputise for and assists the Technical head of Department in order to maintain a high quality service within the resources available. Leads a team of Biomedical Scientists and support staff. Provides expert / advanced technical and scientific advice. Delivers training. Experience in digital pathology.

Main duties of the job

  • To be responsible for the Histology section of the department. To include SOPs, risk assessments, COSHH Assessments, competencies, training, service development, maintenance of equipment, monitoring and ordering of consumables, monitoring of workload and staffing, audit, quality control, incidents and non-conformances.

  • To supervise and perform investigations of varying complexity, this includes both routine and specialist work.

  • To ensure the highest scientific standards are maintained and to contribute to the improvement of technical and scientific standards within the department.

  • To oversee decisions made on the validity of results and the need for further /repeat tests, as well as the interpretation of results carried out in the department.

  • To demonstrate extensive use of personal judgement based on advanced experience and knowledge to ensure correct decisions are made by Biomedical Scientists and support staff on all aspects of specimen processing and microscopy and test interpretation that may directly affect patient care and management.

  • To ensure that appropriate medical staff are informed of any significant abnormal findings as soon as possible.

  • To supervise in digital pathology/Vantage.
