Job summary
An excellent opportunity has arisen within the Blood Sciences Department at Stepping Hill Hospital for a medical laboratory assistant to join our anticoagulation dosing and advisory team. The successful applicant would be joining a passionate and highly motivated staffing group providing diagnostic services to the hospital and patients of the GP practices in Stockport and the High Peak areas.
The post holder works under indirect supervision of the anticoagulation dosing team to meet the needs of patients under the service.
The support required by the service dictates Monday to Friday working core hours between 8:00am-16:30pm with some days requiring earlier starts.

Main duties of the job
Department of Blood sciences (Stockport NHS Foundation Trust) Anticoagulation Medical Laboratory Assistant - full time
The post holder will be performing near patient blood testing utilising point of care measuring devices to provide (warfarin) Anticoagulation dosing advice to patients at community based clinics . In addition, there are administrative duties , regular patient contact, document and record keeping and use of software required as part of the role.
You will be part of a multi skilled team of staff, travelling out to GP surgeries and primary care centres to provide blood testing clinic sessions.
As part of the Blood sciences team you will also undertake processing of patient samples and enrolling patient data into the laboratory information management system.
Experience of working in Health care is advantageous.
The Blood Sciences laboratory has ISO 15189 accreditation and is committed to providing a service of the highest quality 24 hours per 7 day week.

- Perform near patient testing of all anticoagulant patients in a clinic or domiciliary setting
- Maintain anticoagulant kit and equipment, ensuring adequate supplies to carry out the clinic and domiciliary visits
- Participation in NEQAS quality assurance scheme and other routine equipment validation
- Covering office duties including answering the phone, contacting patient via phone and email, booking appointments using the DAWN software, and other administrative duties.
- Processing of patient samples and enrolling patient data into the laboratory information management system.
- Work as part of the anticoagulant team and wider team of health care professionals, ensuring they have timely access to data from your interventions with patients to facilitate safe and effective care
- Maintain appropriate clinical and nonclinical records, in line with best practice
- Follow national and local guidance regarding anticoagulation management
- To take part in the surveys and audits to ensure consistently high standards of anticoagulation monitoring care are maintained
