Job summary

FULL TIME POST - 40 HOURS A WEEK FOR 6 MONTHS

Applications are invited for the position of Junior Clinical Fellow in General Surgery for 6 months. The post offers experience in elective and emergency surgical work. The rota is a 1:8 full shift, system includes prospective cover for annual and study leave.

Stepping Hill Hospital is one of the country's first NHS Foundation Trusts. This is a large District General Hospital in a pleasant residential area on the border of the Cheshire Plain and the Peak District. There are excellent local amenities in schools.

There is an active Postgraduate Centre with a comprehensive programme of clinical meetings, seminars and excellent library facilities.

Main duties of the job

Daily ward rounds, theatre sessions and a full shift on call rota at SHO level.

The junior doctor accepts that he / she will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation where practicable with his / her colleagues both junior and senior.

Each doctor is contracted to work 40 standard hours each week The rota is worked as a Full Shift rota and is worked as 1:9. This includes prospective cover for annual and study leave.

  • Lunch club GP meetings all medics are invited to attend
  • Weekly colorectal and upper GI MDT
  • Weekly surgical meeting
  • Ongoing clinical teaching
  • Encouraged to partake with ongoing research projects within the department, and actively encouraged to undertake a research project of his / her own choice with the support of their consultant
  • All medical staff are actively encourage to attend regular teaching sessions in the postgraduate centre.
