Job summary

An exciting opportunity become available for a band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse on a fast-paced surgical day surgery unit.

We are looking for an enthusiastic motivated individual with a passion for nursing who has the ambition/drive to develop new services.

The unit provides pre and post operative care for day case patients covering a range of specialities including General Surgery, Urology, Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, ENT and Max Fax. We also prepare a high turnover of patients for more major surgery that are transferred to inpatient wards post operatively.

It is essential that you are able to work using your own initiative and also work well as part of a team. You will be required to demonstrate excellent communication skills and have some management experience and recent surgical experience.

The unit is currently open Monday to Friday 7am until 9pm. A flexible approach regarding the working hours is essential as the days required to work can vary.

Main duties of the job

You will be confident in working under your initiative & able to prioritise your clinical care, admissions and discharges accordingly.

You will be required to take charge when on shift. You must be able to demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with members of the multi disciplinary team and deliver high quality, evidence-led care.

You will have responsibility for the development of the team under the supervision and guidance of the ward manager completing appraisals and ensuring the team are compliant with training.
