Job summary

We are looking for highly motivated health care assistant who can contribute to continuing our high standards of patient's care and be part an active team that are progressing forward in developing improved methods of care.

Our ward of M4 is an area that specialises in fractured neck of femurs. We are a 27 bedded unit that specialises in trauma and orthopaedics along with complex elderly medicine. We are a multi-disciplinary team that are looking in to innovative ways to constantly improve upon the care we provide to our patients.

The Healthcare Assistant role is key to ensuring that our nursing teams are supported to deliver consistently, high quality, patient centred care.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

As a healthcare Assistant you will be expected to work within our dedicated multi-disciplinary teams and be involved in providing individualised care, assisting with patient hygiene and dressing, and meeting the nutritional needs whilst maintaining their dignity and respect. Contributing to the safety and cleanliness of the environment whilst keeping good documentation.

Communications

  • To communicate effectively with the multi-disciplinary team, under the supervision of a registered nurse.
  • To carry out ward clerical and IT tasks, as required.
  • To carry out routine administrative/telephone related tasks.
  • To communicate effectively when giving/receiving verbal and written information.

Responsibility for Patient Care

  • Under the supervision of a registered nurse to assist with patient care activities.
  • To maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • To carry out any tasks required to maintain the safety, cleanliness and tidiness of the ward area.
  • To carry out duties as required, meeting all aspects of ward catering.
  • To carry out routine household management/maintenance activities.
  • To maintain patient dignity.
  • Work closely with other healthcare professionals in order to provide patients with exceptional care.

Planning and organising

  • To organise and plan own day to day workload or activities in order to meet the demands of the job role.

Responsibilities for Physical and / or Financial Resources

  • To actively contribute to the efficient management of ward resources, including ordering/monitoring of ward supplies.

Responsibilities for Human Resources and Leadership

  • To support new or less experienced work colleagues to adapt to the workplace.

Responsibilities for Teaching and Training

  • To participate in training and development activities that are relevant to the job role.

Physical Skills and Effort

  • Use of physical effort to carry out the demands of the job role (e.g. pushing and pulling trolleys/ support to manoeuvre patients
